A study to find out how the bimekizumab study drug works and hos safe it is in people who have palmoplantar pustulosis
(IRB#: IRB_00200856)
This study is being done to help researchers learn more about a medicine called bimekizumab. They want to find out how safe it is and whether it can help treat palmoplantar pustulosis. They will also study how the drug works in the body, how the body responds to it, and what side effects it might cause. Right now, there are no approved treatments for palmoplantar pustulosis outside of Japan and South Korea. The exact cause of this condition is not fully known. Current treatments mainly focus on reducing symptoms and helping prevent flare-ups, but there is still a strong need for better treatment options. Bimekizumab is a type of medicine called a monoclonal antibody. This means it is a protein designed to attach to specific targets in the body. It works by blocking certain proteins that cause inflammation (the bodys response to injury or infection). These proteins are found at higher levels in inflammatory diseases like palmoplantar pustulosis. Bimekizumab is already approved in many parts of the world to treat several conditions in adults, including plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. It is also approved in Japan to treat a related condition called generalized pustular psoriasis.
