Pathways to Identification: A Qualitative Study of Entry Into the Involuntary Celibate Community

(IRB#: IRB_00194825)

This project seeks to investigate how individuals come to identify with the "incel" (involuntary celibate) community, focusing specifically on the pathways by which people become affiliated with this online subculture. Through semi-structured interviews with self-identifying involuntary celibate individuals, this qualitative study aims to understand participants' own narratives, through which we may examine the social, emotional, and contextual factors, such as experiences of loneliness, marginalization, or rejection, by which an individual comes to associate themselves with the incel movement.
