Testing a Weight Loss Program

(IRB#: IRB_00188990)

People who log what they eat and weigh regularly tend to lose more weight and keep it off. This study wants to see if providing personalized payments for losing weight and logging food in an app motivates people to do these things regularly, while receiving weight management instruction from a registered dietitian. People in the study will complete surveys and weigh themselves at least 2 days a week on a provided scale. People will track what they eat and drink using a Fitbit app at least 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Once this phase is completed, people will attend 13 one-hour weight loss group classes, review videos on their own, and complete 2 virtual visits over 6 months, while continuing to weigh regularly and log food. People will also receive 3 to 5 text messages per week with study information.
