Learn To Teach Your Child With Autism How To Swim

(IRB#: IRB_00188978)

This study will develop and test a swim lesson training program for parents to teach their children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder how to swim. Being in the study requires the parent and child to attend an initial 30-minute swim session at the participants nearest swimming pool that also includes parent training. Then the parent and child will attend eight 15-minute swim lessons twice a week for four weeks using strategies learned from the researcher to help the parent teach the child how to swim. During the four weeks, there will also be 30-minute Zoom meetings with the researcher once a week. There will be two 30-minute follow-up visits at months three and six, like the initial session. Study participation lasts about 5.5 hours over 6 months.
