Testing an Approach to Long-Term Weight Loss Success

This study will test an intervention for weight loss maintenance. People in the study will complete assessments and surveys measuring body weight, dietary intake, mental health, and physical activity. Being in the study requires participating in a 26-week intervention. This includes regular educational texts/emails, weekly online survey check-ins, weekly remote weigh-ins, and at least 4 in-person visits to the study clinic. Some participants may receive health coaching during parts of the study.

Inclusion Criteria
- Ages 18 to 65 years old
- Must have lost at least 7% of their body mass within the past 6 months through intentional methods such as diet, exercise, or medication
- Must be generally healthy and have stable, well-managed conditions such as thyroid disease, past cancer treatment
- Must have access to a smart device with access to apps and text messaging, as well as Wi-Fi at home to connect a smart scale
- Willing to weigh self weekly, complete remote check-ins, and visit the University of Utah at least four times over six months for in-person visits and equipment drop-offs
Exclusion Criteria
- Uncontrolled cardiovascular, metabolic, renal, or pulmonary disease
- Untreated thyroid disease or cancer treatment within the past 5 years
- Recent or planned weight-loss surgery (within the past 5 years or the next 6 months); or extensive bowel resection
- Recent or active eating disorder diagnosis/treatment within 12 months before participation
- Recent or active psychiatric instability such as unmanaged psychiatric conditions or diagnosed
