Short Chain Fatty Acids Supplements for People with Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is an allergic disease that happens in the esophagus. The disease may cause swallowing to be difficult, vomiting, and heartburn. This study wants to see if taking short chain fatty acids (SCFA) supplements helps people with EoE. People in the study will have an endoscopies, complete surveys, and other medical tests. Participants with active EoE will receive the study treatment twice daily for 8 weeks. Follow up medical tests will be done during the study to track the health of participants. Participants will be paid for study completion.

 Gender: All genders

  Volunteers: Volunteers with special conditions

   Location: In Person

Inclusion Criteria

  • Ages 18 and older
  • Diagnosis of Eosinophilic Esophagitis
  • Having an upper endoscopy to test if proton pump inhibitor treats the disease
  • Do not respond to proton pump inhibition and must continue the proton pump inhibitor throughout the entire study
  • Willing to avoid other EoE treatments such as diet elimination or steroids

Exclusion Criteria

  • Recent antibiotic exposure within 3 months of participation
  • Recent probiotic use within 2 weeks of participation
