Virtual Reality Experience to Increase Empathy and Awareness of the Social Determinants of Health in Nursing Students

(IRB#: IRB_00178601)

This study will help see how well an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience (a 3-D eyewear device that allows experiences not real to feel real) works and impacts the nursing experience for the awareness and empathy of social determinants of health (SDOH). SDOH can be where a person is born, lives, works, and other activities in society. If effective, the VR experience will be used to develop educational programs to teach future nursing students and clinicians about SDOH. People in the study will complete surveys and participate in a VR experience. People will also participate in interviews and group discussions. There will be future follow-up contact through email or phone. Participants will receive $75 for participation.
