Stroke Protocol in Hospital Emergency Departments
(IRB#: IRB_00166192)
An acute stroke is a serious event when a person does not have good blood flow to the brain and can cause death. This study will test a seven-part intervention to improve the accuracy of acute stroke diagnosis and the time it takes for patients requiring transfer from a Primary Stroke Center (PSC) to a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) of patients seeking care in the Hospital Emergency Department. People in the study will participate in 60-to-90-minute monthly group meetings, mainly by video with some in-person, to discuss their experiences, care received, and/or processes of care when seeking care in the Hospital Emergency Department. The meetings will last about 1 year with opportunities to continue participating in meetings every 2 months for about 1.5 to 3 years.
