Testing a Non-Invasive, Magnetic Resonance Guided Focused Ultrasound System to Treat the Spine

(IRB#: IRB_00137036)

This study will test an investigational device (not yet approved by the Federal Drug Administration) called Magnetic Resonance Imaging-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) to develop a new non-invasive treatment for spinal pain. The device allows targeting very small volumes of tissue inside the body without affecting any other part of the body. This new device may one day offer patients an alternative therapy to surgical or more invasive treatments and reduce the amount of pain medications needed. People in the study will have a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam similar to a routine MRI scan to take an image of the spine. Being in the study requires attending one in-person visit at the study clinic for up to 1 hour. People will receive payment for participation.
